Naturally, they had the trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before Transformers: Age of Extinction. It made me more worried than ever. I'm a child of the 80s. We loved them. I went to the first two in the theatre with my brothers.

This time, my mom's the one that insisted on going.

I was most worried about Splinter and April O'Neil: my two favorite characters.

Megan Fox can be good but not when Michael Bay is involved. However, her public humiliation of him seems to have worked. April got a decent storyline. In fact, she was the one who saved Splinter and the turtles before they changed. I also hope that the way she's treated early in the film can be used as a teaching tool about how women have to prove themselves twice as hard as men do.

This film has Karai which I had tremendous hope for but it seems, you can only have one well-written female in a film so she's just there to be Shredder's right hand man. Other than the obvious, why is this so disappointing? Because the Nickelodeon television series for TMNT has that Karai was actually Splinter's daughter that Shredder kidnapped long ago. Splinter assumed she died and she assumes that Shredder is her father.

None of this is in the film. Splinter is a rat and has always been a rat. His ninja skills are only from reading...which begs the question: How did he learn to read?
He is the best looking Splinter I've ever seen; very much like a rat who has been elongated into a humanoid form. My only complaint is that he was voiced by Tony Shalhoub who I would have never imagined as Splinter's voice ever.

The turtles themselves are weird. I did get used to the Shrek-like appearances, but not the extreme stereotypes. Michelangelo used to be my favorite turtle but they turned him into a creep that hits on April at every opportunity. Donatello is a nerd, complete with out of date nerd glasses fixed with tape.

It was an okay movie, fun for a diversion. My mom, knowing very little about the fandom, really enjoyed it.

This is kind of "Ditto" for me. I am also not a fan of TNMT's so I can't comment too much on this movie, but it's kind of the opposite of the other one. I am surprised this one is doing as well as it is. lol..........
