A month or two ago, I mentioned to someone about a study where people tend to hate things after 35 which explained the anger towards the female Ghostbusters and such...

It turns out I remembered it all wrong. It wasn't a study. It was Douglas Adams. It's still true though, just put kickass females in place of technologies:

“I've come up with a set of rules that describe our reactions to technologies:
1. Anything that is in the world when you’re born is normal and ordinary and is just a natural part of the way the world works.
2. Anything that's invented between when you’re fifteen and thirty-five is new and exciting and revolutionary and you can probably get a career in it.
3. Anything invented after you're thirty-five is against the natural order of things.”

Lots of things were invented after I was 35, and I'm fine with that. Whether I use it or not is another story, as I generally have (actually, always have had) a rule that technology is a tool, not the ruler of my life. Maybe that's the difference between over 35 and under. If it doesn't help me do something I need, then forget about it for me. I certainly won't get it just because it's there. Others can do that.

As for the movie... I'll just wait and see. I don't care that it's all women, makes no difference to me. My tastes in humor, though, might have changed. I loved the original Ghostbusters when it came out, but now it's cringeworthy. Same movie, different reaction. Then again... I liked Airplane back then, too... wow!

Yeah, I should have written the post better...it was a very bad idea to think I could simply throw up a post at 2 am and everything would be fine.

I wanted it to be more than just about Ghostbusters but possibly explaining the whole difference why people, especially men, will write long essays about how Buffy, Ridley and Harley Quinn are so awesome but complain about Rey, the new Ghostbusters or Mjolnir being wielded by a woman as well as characters having their race changed to a Person of Color...how there did seem to be a correlation where the biggest complainers were over 35.

Yeah, there was a lot of sexism and racism that was acceptable in comedy back then but now, a lot of us don't feel the same way. Do I think it's going to be a laugh riot?
No, the first one wasn't a laugh riot either even before I could understand the adult stuff and how problematic it is in places.
However, I am hoping for fun and to see fellow females being awesome...because I always thought it would be cool to be a ghostbuster and wanted Janine to be a Ghostbuster so even though it's not me, it's cool to see others like me getting to have that dream fulfilled and to have all those little girls getting to see that without ever going through wishing that they could have that.
It's the same with Rey being a Jedi. A lot of us as little girls wanted to be Jedis but we never got to see ourselves on-screen and now the the little girls will always have a Jedi on-screen to look up to.*

*But I still want Leia with a lightsaber before it all ends or they kill her off.
