Free Comic Book Day 2016 and More
Jan. 27th, 2017 02:32 amI promise not to let this go so long ever again.
But I am getting better with making time for the stuff that makes me happy which then...makes me happier. In general, I feel a lot better than I have in a long time.
Free Comics:
2000 AD
I don't like their stuff too much but I did like how the Judge Dredd story was about a same-sex celebrity couple.
Archie
If the new series would be like this issue, that would be perfect. Also, I love that the Jughead portion is "Lovingly brought to you by Chip & Erica", spelled right and everything.
Assassin's Creed
I never pay for this series but I always enjoy the free ones. I wonder if I should watch the film at some point.
Attack on Titan Anthology
Yay?
I'm not into it but I've been completely ignorant of Afua Richardson. She's totally awesome. I need to pick up her stuff.
Avatarex
Both it and 18 Days used Indians which was cool...but I still want more with Sanjay's Super Team. I had it recommended to me because it showed how the writer broke down the panels for the artist. It's different than just writing a script.
Awake
Cute...I think I read part of it before.
Bob's Burgers
Damn, it was good this year. There were a lot of smaller stories that worked better and the illustrations SO GOOD!
Bongo Comics
Conan O'Brian cameo!
Boom Studios! 2016 Summer Blast
I'm still sad that Boom and Archaia are combined in the FCBD comics but this was SO GOOD!!! All the writing and artwork...I was going to give it away to a friend because of the Labyrinth comic...but I'm not sure now. I do know that I need Goldie Vance next time I go to my comic book store. She's a girl detective in Florida who also works at a hotel and...I just love it.
Bruce Lee The Dragon Rises
This was actually cute and I enjoyed it a lot.
Camp Midnight
It's a very cute all ages story about a human who accidentally ends up at a monster camp.
Captain America Anniversary Magazine
It had some really interesting parts including the background on the "No, you move" speech.
Civil War II
Hmm, Rhodey and Carol...part of me finds it cute and the other part is like...isn't she supposed to be with Jessica Drew?
Oh...he dies anyway...ick
Comics Lab!!!
I liked Welcome to Showside. It had a Teenomicon that was hilarious and the costumes were awesome. Plus, Ian McGinty!!!
Dark Lily & Friends
I really enjoyed Dark Lily as well as Mage, Inc. The other two were meh.
DC SuperHero Girls
I liked it. I need to watch the television series some time.
Doctor Who
As a whole, it wasn't as good as last year but I continue to love Ten's companions and Nine was very cute...Jack's the man in the moon!
Dream Jumper
This is co-written by Greg Grunberg. It was kind of slow...the problems of using an excerpt from an upcoming graphic novel instead of an original story.
Drawn & Quarterly Presents
Mooncop was disappointing but Tom Gauld made me laugh so I added him on Tumblr and how did I forget about Lynda Barry?
Grumpy Cat (And Pokey!)
Some of it was cute and some was Grumpy being...destructive.
Help the CBLDF...Defend Comics
I wasn't familiar with Lucy Knisley before but I'm glad I am now.
Hilda
Hilda is totally cute and I love her adventures with various mythological/fairy tale creatures. I also want to look into Marguarite Abouet. She writes about life in the Ivory Coast.
Howard Lovecraft and the Frozen Kingdom
Howard is a child and Cthulhu is a cuddly monster who doesn't realize he's a god, lol. It's so cute!
Junior Braves of the Apocalypse
So, I don't mind zombies...but I also really don't like them.
Lady Mechanika
It wasn't what I thought it would be. It's more like Cinder meets Van Helsing, pretty awesome.
The Legend of Korra
Absolutely adorable little Korra first finds Naga! It has How to Train Your Dragon, too.
(big smile)
Love And Rockets
Since it's such an important comic from a historical perspective, I've been wanting to read it, never got around to it. This is what I love about FCBD. It didn't disappoint.
March
I should have tried harder to read the full volumes. This is extra motivation.
Mix Tape 2016
I really liked Mercy Sparx, that one could be cute. Badger had Putin losing in a boxing match, yes, THAT Putin, lol. Then, the third story is about squirrels who are warriors called...Squarriors! I'm not making that up. The realistic illustrations had me howling with laughter.
I may be a bad person.
Oddly Normal
I already own Volume 1 but it's a great series and bonus cartoon Otis Frampton!
One-Punch Man
My nephews love this one.
Overstreet's Comic Book Marketplace
I enjoyed the article on Star Trek and how it tried to explain Civil War 2...it sounds so messed up. Plus, Chip Zdarsky interview!!!
The Phantom
I never thought about it before but shouldn't the Phantom be more...African looking? Did all his ancestors for 400 years conveniently find fellow Caucasian spouses in the Bengali jungle?
Pink Panther
Loki looked like Dick Dastardly, lol.
Pokemon
Yay! However, it felt more thought was put into the quizzes than the plot.
Rom
The cover story wasn't my thing but I loved the history of Action Man included with it.
Sanjay and Craig
So, this had a story about how you can't try new foods or it might end up with the extinction of the planet...not sure that's a good moral for a children's comic.
Science Comics
I liked that comic books could be educational but hated finding out that aquariums are STILL taking wild fish!!!
Serenity
This is the cutest Serenity story ever and if it's the same people doing the current series, maybe I need to try it after all. Also, you can't go wrong with Hellboy.
Sonic
You know how now we get split up into groups based on who we identify with: Hillary vs. Bernie, Hillary vs. Trump, Kanye vs. Taylor, Cap. vs. Iron Man...it used to be more about general pop culture ideas. Like Star Trek vs. Star Wars, Nick vs. Disney, Sega vs. Nintendo. I was a Nintendo girl so I'm still a bit lost in Sonic's world even though my nephews don't remember a world where Sonic wasn't available on Nintendo products.
Spectrum
The creative team includes Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion. Mysterious girl, aliens, spaceships...kind of trite, right? Then again, this might be a case of the first issue not being a fair comparison of the actual series.
Spongebob
Krusty Krab has...a senior citizen discount; the horror, the horror. I really liked Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. They were drawn in the traditional comic book style.
Steve Rogers: Captain America
Eh...the story's boring and Sharon is almost always drawn with resting bitch face even when she's running!
Strawberry Shortcake #0
Did you know a variant of Strawberry Shortcake #1 was scratch and sniff?
I liked how the characters were updated. They look very different but keep the spirit of it. However, the villain Purple Pie Man makes me hope he never meets Purple Man.
Southern Cross #1
I like when employees recommend stuff. Sometimes, I'm a little unsure but this one clerk insisted on this one so much that she gave me it for free.
Yeah, she was right. It's good.
Street Fighter
In previous years, this comic was over-sized and I enjoyed it. This year, it was normal size and okay.
The Stuff of Legend
The artwork is gorgeous and I love when toys are alive...but the story about a boogeyman coming from the closet and abducting children...too scary for me.
Suicide Squad
I wonder what King Shark would look like in a live action film.
The Tick
Multiple Deadpools=hilarity.
Multiple Ticks=scary, so very scary.
Valiant
I normally don't like Valiant that we'll but I definitely want to pick up Faith...it's not Faith Lehane, it's a totally different character.
We Can Never Go Home
I've always heard good things but...eh. Maybe if I was in a different mood.
Worlds of Aspen 2016
She can turn into a DRAGON!!! But I thought her cohort was a woman and it was made clear in the additional notes that it's a male.
$1 or less:
8house #1 Arclight
I thought the original price was a lot more but this one was on sale for 25 cents. The artwork is amazing. The story is a little confusing but it's the first issue.
8house #2 Arclight
I love the artwork. The story is still kind of slow. I think it would have worked better all at once in a collected work.
Alex + Ada
I was worried about the robot thing but it does appear as good as everyone said.
Avengers Spotlight #22
Hawkeye and Mockingbird are doing marriage counseling. The Swordsman's origins were interesting. Then, there were the complaints in the letters section...it reminded me of the complaints against Agents of SHIELD...boring plots, no real villains, nothing to care about. I still wish I had the space or money for all the Solo/Spotlight comics.
Awake #1
Aww, just as cute as I was expecting, loved the world-building.
Caliban #7
Aww, it was sad.
The Steam Engines of Oz
I was so disappointed. I've almost all of Baum's Oz books and I was basically lost through most of it even though I thought the steam punk addition would be really cool. They already have the Tin Man and other mechanicals so it's not a big stretch.
Casanova: Acedia 4
I don't understand anything, lol...I think it comes after below issues.
Casanova: Avaritia 1
I love Matt Fraction. I really do. This time, slightly lovable loser also has a time travel/alien element as well as a Douglas Adams vibe.
I'm hooked.
Casanova: Avaritia 2
I'm a little more lost...more Dirk Gently than Hitchhiker's but I'm still enjoying it and loved Matt's take on illegal downloads.
Chew #1
There's a prohibition on chickens complete with speakeasy and everything. Being the first issue, it doesn't address whether all chickens have been exterminated and how that affects other products. It's insane how many people still insist on feather pillows.
The hero knows a food's history by eating it...including eating humans. I enjoyed the artwork. The story's different but I'm good about not continuing.
DC Comics Bombshells #1
(sighs in happy contentment)
Deadly Class #1
Nope
Nope
So nope...it was like an extremely depressing version of the first Magnus Chase but even though, obviously this comic was first...
*unpopular opinion*
I'm not sure I like Rick Remender as an author.
East of West
This was recommended and...eh...too violent for me.
Fatale #1
Like noir but not?
*unpopular opinion*
I'm not sure I like Ed Brubaker's writings either*
Generation X #21
Howard the Duck! for about two pages and then reduced to a cameo. Brownie points for bringing up Autism in November 1996, even before Autism Speaks existed...because we're supposed to think there was nothing before them, right?
Also, I finally understand why fans of a certain age think of Emma Frost as a hero.
Generation X #26
Eww...let me explain...
1. Jubilee is on the cover with a large gun and her bubblegum but inside she's wearing a dress so skimpy that it might as well be a hospital gown with a full back. There are several panels where her legs are spread and in between is just a shadow but why have that at all?
Made worse by the story referring to her as "She's just a child."?
2. The main storyline is boring.
3. A reader asks to have a gay character and is told "we're not addressing that issue at this time". What the fuck? Stupid 90s...but not that much better now either...
4. They even admit not publishing the full, correct comic in the previous issue.
5. There's an ad for the new Batman action figure series described as "Massive chiseled ripped". Eww, I thought my Han Solo from that time period was bad enough.
Generation X Holiday Spectacular
It's cute but sad. It also comes with unopened packs of X-men Trading cards. I like the possibility...I won't open them either.
Halloween Eve
I loved the cover and it was in the 25 cents box. Now it turns out it's a one-shot by the same people who now do Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur so no wonder...
The end of it was a little pat but I loved the rest of it.
I Love Trouble #6
Okay, the cheaper paper is a turn-off. It smells more. It feels coarse but damn, if the story and artwork make the trouble all worth it. I have to track the other ones down.
Jurassic Park: Dangerous Games #3
A drug kingpin "presently controls Jurassic Park". EWW
"Dr. Frances White, who has trained raptors to obey her commands". Ooh, that sounds familiar...
But there was a horrible lack of dinosaurs in this issue and that's unforgivable.
Lando #1
Give me all the Lando. ALL OF IT! Also, I think Charles Soule is turning into a must read author.
Kanan: The Last Padawan #1
Aww, baby Kanan...err, young teenager Kanan, I'll read the rest of the series eventually. It has a nice upbeat tone.
The Mighty Skullkickers #1
All I needed to know was that Jim Zub was credited on the cover. Then, I know I'm going to love it. It's a little weirder than my usual fare but I still want to read more.
Mockingbird #1
Oh gosh, I miss her so much! If she can't be on Agents of SHIELD, can't we have her...somewhere? Netflix? Freeform? Hulu? Films?
Also, I have those same socks except they're slowly disintegrating because I rescued them from a closet in the office at McKay Hall (dormitory) in 2002 and we weren't sure how long they had been back there then...it didn't look like it had been cleaned since the '80s.
Mockingbird #2
Read More Comics in Brandon does this thing for Free Comic Book day where they remain all variant and expensive comics to storage so everything left out in the store is a dollar. This was a variant they missed but still honored the dollar price.
Lance's full name is Lancelot?
Seriously?
Also, remember the TARDIS mug in #0? Now there's a TARDIS pillow.
P.S. The Hellfire Club has an Orlando branch...that totally makes sense.
Pinky and the Brain #4
I love them so much.
Prez #1
I think this predicted the election but I also want to read more of it.
Red Wolf #1
Sometimes, I like westerns and sometimes, I hate them so I was leery and didn't buy it new...
That was STUPID. I want the whole series now.
Rose
It's by Jeff Smith, the Bone guy, but it has two female protagonists and DRAGONS!
Also...cliffhanger...
Solo Avengers Starring Hawkeye and Black Widow
...who never appear together! I was pissed about that but even apart, they had great stories. Sandman was even a hero which I didn't know about! There was also some stuff I posted on Instagram. It's so convenient.
Solo Avengers Starring Hawkeye Plus, The Wasp
Finally, Hawkeye and Black Widow team up!
But they get their asses kicked by AIM
And Bobbi is all jealous...
And I don't accept any version of the Wasp who's not science inclined, preferably including mechanics.
Thor Annual #14
The cover had Thor, Dr. Strange, Ben Grimm and Quasar in a team-up but that story ended up boring. Wanda was wasted and I will always hate how they did Sigyn. However, Stan Lee's letter was really nice. I quoted it in a previous post.
Thrilling Adventure Hour Presents Sparks Nevada Marshal on Mars
I've been intrigued before by the photo cover, like a television series that looks familiar but you can't place it. It turns out it's a podcast I've heard of before. The silliness took me a little bit to get into. The artwork reminds me of Disney Adventures or Nickelodeon Magazine so that's been a while. I probably won't read more but I would like to try the podcast.
Naturally, they stopped making the podcasts over a year ago but I'm going to try the crossover episode with Welcome to Night Vale.
Wayward #1
Jim Zub does cute stuff in Japan!
Young Avengers Presents Hawkeye
It's the original issue that contained Kate properly meeting Clint Barton! Also, it has a milk ad with Christian Bale as Batman.
Young Avengers Presents Hulkling
It's the one and only time that Teddy meets his dad. Insert knife in gut and twist.
Young Avengers Presents Patriot
Patriot was never my favorite Avenger for a multitude of reasons and then, this is issue if written by Brubaker...but there was good stuff there. Kate crushing on Bucky, lol.
Young Avengers Presents Stature
Why are the Young Avengers drawn so old? Kate looks like a Kardashian.
Young Avengers Presents Vision
This one is probably the most dialogue driven. I forgot Vision looked so different and that he went out with Cassie.
Young Avengers Presents Wiccan & Speed
It was all about dealing with their past and I loved it.
$10 or less:
Aether & Empire
I loved the cover. The inside turns out to be if Horatio Hornblower had involved steampunk airships. Perfect. I also need to look into Anne Bonnie.
Agent X #5
Gail Simone writing Marvel? Yes, please! It also has one of the greatest comic covers ever.
I want more...
Angel & Faith: Season 10 #1
Angel and Faith was always my favorite of the comic book series. This is making me miss it especially Buffy's reunion with Giles...but then, Giles is my favorite and I think he stays with Buffy for the regular season 10 series. Did anyone read the Spike solo series?
Angela: Asgard's Assassin
Aww, Laussa! Now she doesn't even exist with the new reboot...
Even though I own this issue...I wonder if my comic book store has the Skottie Young variant, it's TOO CUTE!
Immortal Weapons #2
If I could see inside, I don't know if I would have bought it...it's more of a horror comic. However, it was very interesting especially the AU quality.
The Little Archies: Live in Person #652
I couldn't resist that variant cover but the inside is a bit of a mess...too juvenile.
Marvel Mangaverse: Eternity Twilight #1
Everyone's so cute...except T'Challa for some reason...
Tony Stark is now Toni and Science Bros is canon...they have a nude scene with Toni and Bruce and everything.
Marvel Mangaverse: The Punisher #1
Illustrated by Lea Hernandez, I wanted it but it turns out the Punisher is a woman! I love this...of course it's only one issue and there was no more. (sigh)
Puppy Power: Bo Obama
I had been tempted to buy this for a while. It us cute as expected BUT there is a LOT of facts that according to the bibliography is taken from the White House website and Wikipedia. I did learn where Laika got its name but I wanted more of a plot.
Power-Up! #6
I finally found it! It was just as good as I'd hope for but...it doesn't look like there's going to be another one. :( I also need to look into Diesel by Tyson Hesse.
Solar Flare
Are you ever just drawn to something?
I usually don't go for Dystopian but it was by a sign declaring it as an independent Florida author, self-published. I do like to support the little guys on their own and the comic book guys behind the counter talked it up.
On the first page, I knew why I was drawn to it. They referenced my hometown. The bulk of the issue is a flashback that all takes place on my mom's birthday.
Stabbity Bunny #1
Magic! Plush animals that kill people! Cute animals! What's not to like?
Tail Wands #3
It's still just as fun if not better because we are getting more into the plot!
Yeah, spooked.
The Throwaways
Another local production using black and white, it was described as like 80s Spielberg because everything is, right? But it's more than that, it has Lucas and some other bits. I really liked it. The characters were real and the story interesting...I'm always a sucker for a prophecy. I can't wait to hunt down more.
*Dammit, there are only the two issues!
What If? Secret Wars #1
Before I die...I want Victor Von Doom properly done where you can know about his parents and his Rromani upbringing and how tragic everything was. Plus, someone can't draw pregnant women proportions. It was like her belly was just slightly smaller than the round spheres in front of Target.
Also, it has The Runaways!
X-Men: Equinox #1
The X-Men as anime! It's fun.
Over $10:
The Wellkeeper Volume 2
I'm still struck by the urge to color it but it's such a good book even though they didn't have Volume 1 and 2 ends on a cliffhanger.
Bought at a different time:
1602: Witch Hunter Angela
Sadly, I think this will be the last in the series. I have loved them all even though only the first was by Neil Gaiman.
This had Coulson! SQUEEE!!!
But Serah dies, wtf?
Luckily, that's only halfway through so there's a lot more to happen after that!
I loved it.
Civil War II: Choosing Sides #1
Ooh, Night Thrasher...I have that TsumTsum!
Civil War II: Choosing Sides #2
America is on the cover! She's with Kate in almost every panel. Also, there are Monica Rambeau and Misty Knight!
Civil War II: Choosing Sides #3
Kate and most of her Young Avengers supporting each other, yay!
Civil War II: Choosing Sides #4
This one was confusing and Nick Fury was fighting Natasha.
Civil War II: Choosing Sides #5
Justin Trudeau discusses things with Alpha flight and Tony Stark. Plus, there's Colleen Wing and Misty Knight! Is that Jasper Sitwell as a zombie?
MCU do not take note.
Civil War II: Choosing Sides #6
Jessica Jones looks so...normal. I also liked White Fox.
DC Universe Rebirth
This is one of the best DC comics I've read; the perfect way to reboot a whole universe. Also, I like how it builds on casual readers who watch the shows.
Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #1
Dragons! Merlin! I'm in!
Yes, I want to know about this future Wiccan who's filled out and has that mature handsomeness. Also, the villain seems inspired by Guillermo del Toro.
Ooh, it's edited by Darren Shan? That explains a lot.
Doctor Strange and the Sorcerers Supreme #2
Billy and Teddy are married with at least one child! SQUEE!!!
Stephen is married as well but Billy won't say who!
AND THERE'S MAGIC!!!
I LOVE THIS BOOK!
Doctor Strange: The Last Days of Magic
Eh
Fuck Fairyland #6
Lmao
Fuck Fairyland #7
I thought pee was flammable?
Fuck Fairyland #8
I forgot which comic I was reading because VIDEO GAME WORLD SIDETRIP sounded more like Bryan Lee O'Malley.
Fuck Fairyland #9
This would be so awesome in stop motion.
Fuck Fairyland #10
Gertrude goes Mad Max?
Goldie Vance Volume 1
Ugh, I love it so much.
You have a smart girl detective like Nancy Drew but way more badass. Then, it's in Florida complete with Weeki Wachi mermaids...even if she was in a hotel...and it's an alternate universe where the 60s didn't care about your skin color!
It's so beautiful.
Plus, Goldie isn't straight.
I want more.
Guardians of the Galaxy #1
I love Kitty Pryde and Peter Quill together. They're so cute I just now realized there was no Rocket Raccoon or anyone else.
Harley Quinn: Hot in the City
I wanted to read this since #1 was given away on a Free Comic Book Day. It didn't disappoint. Harley Quinn is an accidental landlord in a building of misfits who also rescues animals from time to time. Unlike Clint Barton, she has no qualms about killing and also has an actual day job.
I love it.
P.S. There is no Joker, just mentions. Harley has plenty of snuggles and kisses with Poison Ivy.
Hawkeye #1
This is my most expensive comic because I couldn't pass up the Aja variant.
Hawkeye #2
Hawkeye goes up against sexist MRAs! Yes!
Hulk #1
Since Clint Barton supposedly killed Bruce Banner, Jennifer Walters is the Hulk. I don't know what happened to Amadeus Cho. I like the tone. It reminds me a lot of the She-Hulk Diaries.
Jem #15
I bet if they had used the Josie and the Pussycats movie, everyone would have understood the brainwashing sooner.
Jem #16
Pizzazz saves the day!
When does that ever happen?
Jem #17
Looks like we're getting Raya soon but I wonder if Shana leaves the same way or not.
Jem #18
It's just so...perfect.
Jem #19
Ooh, war between the Misfits and Stingers!
Jem #20
NOOO!!!
But I am having a hard time getting used to Meredith McClaren's artwork
Jem #21
I love Raya so much.
Jem #22
WHERE IS STORMER?
Misfits #1
One day, there will be another live action adaptation of Jem and the Holograms and IT BETTER BE BASED OFF KELLY THOMPSON'S COMICS!
Preferably, I'd want a TV series so we have Holograms and Misfits equally. I love finding out more about the Misfits.
Josie and the Pussycats #1
The cover by Colleen Coover was irresistible. The inside is just as good. I need to catch up on it.
Paper Girls #1
It's more '80s nostalgia but with time travel!
Poe Dameron #2
It referenced Before the Awakening!
Poe Dameron #3
I missed new Poe and BB-8 so much...
Poe Dameron #4
"L'ulo helped raise me, pretty much."
Do tell us more.
Poe Dameron #5
a.k.a. When Droids Attack and Kick Ass!
Poe Dameron #6
The Droids continue to kick ass and there's a Leia appearance!
Poe Dameron #7
I can't decide if Suralinda is a former girlfriend or a former faghag. Also, Phil Noto didn't do the artwork this time. :(
Poe Dameron #8
This time, with new Jakku flashbacks!
Poe Dameron #9
Team-up issue with Poe, BB-8 and C-3PO!
Poe Dameron #10
Ever wonder about Grand Moff Tarkin's personal shuttle?
Me neither but this reveals it.
Plutona #5
It wrecked me a little and I'm not sure anyone else has read it.
Rochelle #1
I'm intrigued, that's what you want from a #1.
Rochelle #2
Yay, it's a team-up issue with Tampa and a Roddy Piper reference.
Rochelle #3
I want more. The current story wrapped up wonderfully with some loose ends for the future.
Secret Wars: Days of Future Past #1
Everything is totally confusing. Kitty Pryde had a daughter with Colossus.
I never shipped those two.
Snotgirl #1
New Bryan Lee O'Malley!
Snotgirl #2
Previous O'Malley works have been criticised for their whiteness. This one is a lot more diverse. I know that's not saying much.
Snotgirl #3
I think Coolgirl is a side effect of her new prescription.
Snotgirl #4
The ending should have that Dahm Dahm from Law & Order.
Snotgirl #5
Damn, Charlene!
Trinity
Everyone's being so cute together. Clark and Los have a son named Jonathan so Lois invited Diana and Bruce for dinner.
U.S.Avengers #1
I still don't understand why Ant-Man is the Avenger of Florida. Shouldn't that be Bobbi Morse?
But I do love Toni Ho.
Wonder Woman #1
I'm so lost and there's no mention of her twin brother that was mentioned in Rebirth.
Wonder Woman #1
Yeah, there were two number ones in one month. This one mentioned the brother and was much more interesting.
Wonder Woman #2
Trevor's plot was more interesting? Oops
Wonder Woman #3
Aww, I liked the scenes with her and Cheetah.
Wonder Woman #4
This had that Wonder Woman had to give up immortality when she left home. Is that new? I don't remember that before.
Wonder Woman #5
The story is really getting good.
Wonder Woman #6
Ooh, I like Barbara Ann which makes the future story that much more sad.
Wonder Woman #7
Yay, Barbara Ann is freed from her curse!
Wonder Woman #8
I think I love Barbara Ann. Also, I want to look into Wonder Woman: The True Amazon by Jill Thompson
Wonder Woman #9
Aww, Diana was just so cute in this one.
Wonder Woman #10
Steve and Trevor spend a time either naked or shirtless that would only be comparable to Clint Barton. I'm not complaining.
Wonder Woman #11
Etta kicks ass.
Wonder Woman #12
Ares shows up! Also, Mariko Tamaki is writing Supergirl?
Wonder Woman #13
Wait...what?
Wonder Woman #14
Aww, it was just so...good.
The boss gave me comics:
Avengers: Fear the Reaper #1
Come on, if there's mystical acts going on, just get Dr. Strange!
Avengers West Coast #84
This is such a good Clint Barton issue. First, he complains about a presidential candidate being a Nazi. Then, he's the only one being nice to Arachne for having to bring her daughter to work. Also, Stan Lee continues to promote the Spider-man film that James Cameron was supposed to make.
Avengers West Coast #90
Ultron has taken Bobbi!
Avengers West Coast #91
Clint is Goliath...possibly to have him in even less clothes...
Battlestar Galactica #13
I'm not a big BSG fan but I enjoyed the advertisements, like a full page announcement of Marvel's new character...She-Hulk!
Also, Howard the Duck #3 was supposedly Howard vs Santa.
Captain America #405
I want to know all about this Bernie person. She seems awesome.
Cloak and Dagger #5
I enjoyed reading Cloak and Dagger on their own but again, the advertisements are so awesome. Gobots! Strawberry Shortcake! An Ewok!
Daredevil #310
I understand almost nothing.
Darkhawk #19
Eh
Elfquest #7
This isn't one of the black and white originals. It's more like a second volume but I can see why it's talked about so much.
Fantastic 4 #241
Field trip to Wakanda!
Fantastic Four #367
Franklin Richards sleeps with a plush Ewok.
Fantastic Four #368
In another issue, it was said that Spider-man and Hawkeye were injured in the blast. In this, they were ignored.
Fantastic Four #372
At first, I thought it was related to this other issue I read where they testified before Congress but this appears to be Skrulls causing trouble.
G.I. Joe: Order of Battle #2
This is the "Official G.I. Joe Handbook" so it has all the characters. Did you know Rocky Balboa was a G.I. Joe?
I know that Sergeant Slaughter was turned into a G.I. Joe and so was William "Refrigerator" Perry but...
It just seems weird.
G.I. Joe: Order of the Battle #3
It turns out the previous issue had all the characters except COBRA. Last issue, I was impressed by the diversity. This issue, I'm disappointed by certain ethnic stereotypes like the Rromani and Eastern Europeans.
Also, there's a retraction that Rocky Balboa was never a G I. Joe.
The Incredible Hulk #248
I really enjoyed this one. Hulk comes to terms with death but saves a planet in doing so. There was also a recap of the original Infinity War!
Plus, Betty was once married to Talbot...the one in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., eww.
The Incredible Hulk #401
Years before Rick Riordan published his first Percy Jackson novel, Marvel had an organization called the Pantheon where everyone is named after Greek heroes and Agamemnon gives his leadership position to the Hulk.
Betty shouldn't be blonde. It's weird and wrong.
Also, don't read the letters section where they refer to sexual orientation as a "lifestyle". Apparently, there was a very special issue dealing with AIDS.
The Infinity Gauntlet #4
OH, I saw this adapted on The Super Hero Squad Show!
Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #10
It feels more like a Civil War where heroes are fighting with each other. Monica Rambeau continues to be Captain Marvel!
MS-Tech Wars #1
It's from their English imprint. Nick Fury appears to need rescuing again.
The New Warriors #27
"An Infinity War Crossover" that includes a two page spread of cameos like Scarlet Witch, Beast, and a bearded Thor but no Clint Barton that I could find.
The New Warriors #32
Cloak's outfit is so tight that she has a camel toe which seems very impractical for crime fighting.
Secret Wars II #8
Why would you nickname anyone "Owie"?
Sometimes, I read comics from years ago and you can see how that formed comics 10-20 years later.
I think this heavily inspired the Purple Man in Jessica Jones.
The one redeeming quality to this issue is that Captain Marvel is Monica Rambeau.
Silver Sable & the Wild Pack
I really like how Silver knows it's not the real Doom because she says the real Doom would never hit her.
The Silver Surfer #76
Am I supposed to like the Jack of Hearts?
The Silver Surfer #77
Naked Nebula...
The Silver Surfer #78
Nebula looks like the Karen Gillan version.
Sleepwalker Holiday Special
I liked that this issue finally addressed something I've been wondering about. The Sleepwalker can only appear when Rick is asleep so if he's having trouble staying asleep, the Sleepwalker will keep disappearing like those insurance commercials. It was pretty funny.
Squadron Supreme #7
Sadly, it has nothing to do with the Sorcerer Supreme. It seems to revolve around Hyperion, a sexist creep who thinks it's fine to spy on the Power Princess in her bedroom. He's not the only pretty backwards in this 1986 series. Power Princess met the love of her life when they were both in their 20s. He aged normally and she didn't so multiple people either call it "disgusting" or assume the relationship is now "platonic". Then, a week after her husband's funeral, it has Power Princess and Hyperion making which the narrator refers to as "Zarda yields to an irresistible force".
EWW
The West Coast Avengers #6
Why couldn't they just call Dr. Strange?
Strange?

It's an undertaking, for sure, with 30+ years of storytelling, but I advise reading the whole shebang from the beginning. Collected volumes are available at many libraries.
