Chapter Five: Confirmation

Rhi sat on Ianto's bed and waited for the first results. Her brother was taking a pregnancy test. This was too weird. She shook her head but it was still unbelievable.

"Anything?" she called out.

"Uh...first one says 'Pregnant' but it was digital, could be coded wrong. I'll try another," he yelled through the door. Pregnant? Was there some truth to this madness? She stood up and paced; stopping near the door to his loo. It seemed like forever.

"What's the other ones say?" she asked and crossed her arms. She started watching the fish in his small tank. He only had one. It was a Siamese fighting fish named Myfanwy.

"I don't know yet. It's not that easy," he complained, "I'm a bloke, writing my name in the snow is one thing but this...why does the...containment unit have to be so small? I keep pissing all over my hands."

Rhi had to cover her mouth with her hands so Ianto couldn't hear her laughing.

"Fuck," Ianto spat and she knocked on the door.

"Let me in, are you decent?" she asked with one hand on the knob.

"I can be," he replied and the door came open. Ianto was in front of the sink surrounded by several pee tests. In some form or another, they all read, Positive. No matter what explanation he gave her earlier, this just wasn't possible.

"There must be something wrong with them. Maybe Boots got in a bad batch. We should complain," she spoke and he looked at her with an anxious expression. His blue shirt was unbuttoned and hanging loose around him while his trousers were unzipped. She hated seeing her little brother this way.

"Tell you what, I'll take one as a control test or whatever they call it while you take the rest, yeah?" she suggested and took the nearest unopened box next to a large bottle of lotion. She stepped around him to the shower, closed the curtain and started ripping open the cardboard.

"It's a good thing we're doing this here and not in the house, Johnny would have kittens if he saw all these tests in the rubbish bin," she said while pulling down her pants.

"I don't think he'd mind another one though," Ianto spoke and she tried not to focus on the sound of weeing filling the room.

"I don't know, he's been acting...off lately, like I don't know what he's thinking anymore," she complained, "I used to know what he was going to say before he said it."

"I'm sure it's just a phase," he spoke with a little bit of a grunt, "I should have drunk more water."

"I hope so," she said and zipped up. After running some water through, she opened the curtain and Ianto moved so his back was to her. She set the test on the sink counter and filled a cup with water. He took it while still trying to maintain his back to her before she saw him stiffen for a minute and sigh.

"You just urinated in my shower," he stated in an annoyed tone.

"I cleaned it up. Johnny does it all the time," she explained and started setting up the tests into groupings. One group was her lone control test while the other was all the ones done by Ianto.

"'Johnny does it all the time' does not qualify as logical reasoning with me," he retorted and she smiled. At least, he could quip. She knew it was his coping mechanism. If something was really upsetting, he'd joke about it so she'd only really worry when it reached the point where he couldn't even find the humor in it.

"The kids have done worse in mine," she explained, "That's one of the first things to go; that level of clean you're accustomed to. You just can't with kids. You'd spend all your time cleaning."

There was another sigh and she wondered if it was a good time to shut up. Then, she heard the test snap shut with a click and Ianto zip up. She noticed that he'd removed his shirt entirely and was just in his undershirt and trousers. Compared to his usual amount of clothes, he seemed naked and vulnerable as he set the last test on the sink. She gave his shoulder a squeeze. Then, they watched as test after test turned positive except for one. Despite the obvious impossibility, nine tests couldn't be all wrong especially when she knew her own was correct.

"Well, on the plus side, at least I'm not pregnant," she said with a smile. Piercing blue eyes glared at her.
"Fuck," he muttered.

*******************************************************

"Fuck," Ianto repeated several minutes later while they sat in his main room. He lay on the couch while she sat on a chair. He was pregnant; really pregnant like pregnant without a single doubt pregnant.

"Fuck," he said and Rhi chewed on her thumbnail. It was what she did when she didn't know what to say. He didn't know what to say either. Fuck was a good way to describe it or he might change it up with shit. At this very moment, there was a parasite in his abdomen; wreaking havoc on his insides as it formed into a recognizable human.

"Shit," he spoke and resisted the urge to look down to check for outward signs. At least, he still had his cock. He was a man. What was he going to do? What was he supposed to do? What was the proper course of action? Why wasn't this covered in one of the employee manuals? There was normal female pregnancy and pregnancy caused by Nostrovites or other alien species, but not this. He found it hard to breathe. He hated not being in control. He was supposed to know the answers to everything. He prided himself on knowing everything.

"It's going to be fine, yeah?" Ianto asked and looked toward Rhi who seemed to be staring at a random patch of carpet, "yeah?"

"Yeah, of course, it will be fine. It's going to be fine," she said with a forced nod. She said 'it will be fine.' He knew what she wasn't saying; that he didn't have to stay this way. He had options, but what if he made the wrong choice? It would be so easy to go into work tomorrow, get it taken care of, and pretend none of it had ever happened, but he'd know. He'd have to live with that through his entire life. Did he want to live with that? He didn't know. This wasn't his problem alone though. It did take two to do this.

"Shit," Ianto said, "I should call him."

Rhi straightened and moved to the front of her chair.

"You're not...you're not keeping it...are you?" she asked in shock. Ianto folded his arms in disappointment.

"I don't know, maybe. I don't know. I just bloody found out I'm pregnant. I don't want to decide anything right this minute," he complained and she sighed.

"I'm sorry but you're a bloke, how realistic is it that this is going to work? I know they did this to you, but how supportive would that workplace of yours be?" she questioned. It was just one of the many fears he couldn't say aloud right now. "And I don't see why you would have to tell him yet. If you decide not to keep it, wouldn't it be crueler to put him through that than for him to never know at all?"

He supposed that was part of it. He didn't want to go through this alone, but on the other hand...

"I know there's very little chance of this happening again. I would say none, but this...event proves that theory is not true," Ianto rambled. He didn't care how wild he sounded; he needed to speak his mind as he continued, "But if I got someone pregnant, I'd want to know. No matter what happened in the end, wouldn't you want to know?"

After a moment, Rhi did a small nod.

"Are you going to call him then?" she asked without emotion.

"Shit," Ianto spat and remembered more about that night, "I can't. He didn't give me a number and didn't have a mobile on him."

"He doesn't have a mobile? Does he at least have a phone?" Rhi questioned with disgust.

"I don't know. He said he broke it," he recalled aloud.

"But they're practically required, even David has one," she spoke.

"I know, but he had a website and email," Ianto told her, "so that should work."

"What kind of website?" Rhi asked, "Because Johnny's seen them all."

It wouldn't surprise Ianto if Johnny had seen this one as he stood up and got his personal laptop. Even if he had it with him, he wasn't about to use his work laptop for this. He opened it up, pulled up Mozilla and typed in the address.

"He spelled 'coming' wrong. Oh, it's supposed to be 'cum'. That's gross," Rhi commented about the main page that just said, 'Cumming Soon.'

"As long as it's a working contact, I don't care at this point," Ianto commented and clicked on 'Contact Us'.

"Jack?" Rhi asked and he nodded.

"What is your number? I need to speak to you right away," Ianto read what he wrote with trepidation. How would he take it? How could Ianto begin to explain what happened? If it went badly, would he be able to sneak out enough retcon to make him forget? He looked towards Rhi who shrugged.

"If you think this is best," she said and he closed his eyes for second before clicking 'Send'. Hopefully, it would go well.

******************************************************

Jack held the metal close to John's skin and pushed the button.

"Ow!" John spat but was grinning ear to ear.

"Do me next!" Mickey yelled and Andy rolled his eyes, but Owen was watching the whole thing if anything happened. Jack took the Taser and hit Mickey who rubbed his arm. John picked up the laptop and looked at it.

"'Flesh of the Stars' just got an email," he remarked and Jack stopped in his tracks.

"Really?" Jack asked in case John was fucking with him.

"Would you like me to read it to you?" asked John with a mischievous expression.

"Sure," Jack agreed although wondered if he shouldn't.

"Jack, what is your number? I need to speak to you right away. Ianto Jones," John read in his best bedroom voice.

"Ooh!" chimed Owen, Mickey and Andy as one. Then, John made a hand gesture near his crotch and remarked, "Looks like someone wants seconds."

Honestly, Jack had given up on Ianto. Despite the interest at first, the young man had hurried from breakfast and hadn't made any effort to get in touch. This was a real surprise.

"Can't wait to see you again, shall you bring the handcuffs and lotion or shall I?" John asked as he typed on the laptop.

"No!" Jack exclaimed and took the machine from him; deleting what the other had written into a nicer 'looking forward to speaking with you' along with his new mobile number.

"Can it be? Does Jack like one of his part-time shags for more than that?" asked Owen with amusement.

"No, but that would have scared him off," Jack maintained and hit 'Send'. They waited to see how desperate Ianto was to contact him. First, one minute passed, then another before...

Jack's ringtone sounded off.

"Nice," Owen commented.

"Booty call, booty call," John hissed and Jack motioned for him to be quiet as he pressed the Accept button.

"Hello," Jack said into the phone.

"Hi Jack, this is Ianto, I don't know if you remember me," he spoke with an anxious tone in his voice. He found that a little odd, but maybe he just needed a shag that badly?

"Yeah, of course I do," Jack agreed while John mimed a blowjob.

"He must like your cock," Mickey said with a smile.

"I actually was just wondering if maybe you wanted to get together, like tomorrow night?" Ianto asked.

"Yeah, I called that number but the printer must have made a mistake because they said it was a plant shop," Jack told him.

"Right, I'm sorry about that...if I had a number from you, I probably would have called sooner," Ianto spoke with a trace of annoyance.

"Fine, how about The Wolseley?" Jack suggested with the first restaurant he could think of, "At nine o'clock?"

"Sure, that's cool. Can we make it more like six, though? I'd like to keep it early," Ianto spoke in that voice like he had when leaving breakfast before.

"Sure, six o'clock, that leaves more time for afterwards, like dessert," Jack agreed with a nod although it wouldn't be seen on the other end.

"Okay, I'll meet you there then, at six," Ianto confirmed and the line went dead. Mickey, Owen and John were dry-humping each other.

"I'm getting shagged," he said and it was always nice to have that planned ahead of time instead of having to look for someone.

"Now, we just need to find someone for Andy," Mickey commented and Andy shook his head.

"I already have someone," he said to everyone's surprise.

"When we do we meet her?" Jack asked with curiosity.

"Hopefully, never," he replied and walked out of the room.

Ianto wished he could be drinking alcohol, but he still hadn't decided and if he kept it, he would hate knowing he'd put it in danger. Still, it would have made this a lot more pleasant. His smell was just as intoxicating as ever. Ianto moved until he was as far away from Jack as possible when sitting at the same table.

"Nice place, right?" asked Jack in a nervous way.

"It's really nice," Ianto agreed and it was the truth. He'd never been here before even though he'd heard about it. Built in the 1920s, it had bankrupted the original owners with its finery.

"Sorry, it took so long. I didn't realize you needed a reservation," Jack spoke but Ianto was pretty sure it wasn't the complete truth. In fact, the way Jack had asked about several ladies, who were also employees, Ianto had the impression that Jack slept with them in exchange for having a table whenever he showed up. He had been knocked up by a manwhore.

"That's okay," Ianto tried to assure him.

"You look dapper," Jack spoke like they were in a movie with Humphrey Bogart.

"Thanks. Yeah, I just thought, I don’t know, I thought maybe it’d be cool to hang out a little bit and... We didn’t really get to talk much last time so I thought..." Ianto explained in a ramble.

"That we didn't," Jack agreed and put the cloth napkin in his lap for the food that should be arriving soon.

"I thought we'd just talk and get to know each other better," Ianto spoke and drank some of his water.

"Good idea, okay, I'll start. I'm American," said Jack as though Ianto couldn't have guessed that before because of the accent.

"That's cool," he commented and hoped the pasta had been a good choice. Most things did not taste as well when vomiting them back up.

"So, from the States but I came here a very long time ago," Jack added although that didn't really elaborate anything. Which city? Did he keep in touch with his parents? However, there seemed to be one question more crucial than the rest.

"So the web page, is it just something that you guys do for fun? Do you have a real job?" asked Ianto, fidgeting with the watch on his wrist.

"Well, that is our job," Jack said, dashing any hopes for him being normal.

"Oh," Ianto spoke rather than telling Jack that.

"We don't technically get money for the hours we put in, but it is our job," said Jack who was drinking coffee black; bland but impressive. However, smelling nice and being able to drink straight coffee did not a relationship make...

"So, how do you...?" he asked without adding, make a living.

"How do I pay rent and all of this?" Jack clarified and Ianto wasn't sure what to think. He assumed they'd split it or just pay their own portions.

"Yeah," he confirmed and waited for an answer.

"There was an accident a long time ago," said Jack, not looking at him.

"Oh," Ianto commented and wondered if this explained everything. Jack was hit in the head and afterwords, became weird since he didn't appear to have any other injuries. He'd seen him naked. He would have noticed something.

"It was more a temporary thing. You can't see any of the long-term effects, but I get money from the government because of it," Jack spoke and made one of those grins like he could make everything fine just by smiling. It definitely had to be brain damage. At least brain damage wasn't genetic. He couldn't take this anymore. There was no good segueing or transition into what had to be said.

"Yeah. So, I have something I really need to tell you. It’s kind of why I called you. Here it goes. I’m pregnant," Ianto blurted before he could change his mind.

"What?" Jack asked with suspicion.

"Yeah," Ianto confirmed and twisted his hands in his lap.

"What?" Jack asked with suspicion turning to confusion. Jack hadn't left the table, which must be a good sign.

"I'm pregnant..." he repeated and it was beginning to get easier to say.

"With emotion?" Jack interrupted and Ianto knew it was about time to explain the bare minimum of what his job entailed.

"With a baby," Ianto spoke and sighed before continuing, "You're the father."

"I'm the father? Shouldn't you be the father?" he asked, rubbing his chin. Ianto wasn't even sure how that made sense, but he'd gone through a similar state of shock the night before.
