Day 16: A picture of your favorite place to shop

It's the dinosaur shop in Dinoland at Animal Kingdom. I forgot the name of it, it might be Chester and Hester's Dinosaur Treasures but it has like EVERYTHING! If I had the time and memory, I would have photographed that entire store. There's something new around every corner.

So, Torchwood...

First of all, I was very much reminded of Steve Taylor complaining about BBC conspiring to make sure the sex scene was always on just as his dad was checking in on him. Only in my case, it was BBC AND Starz making sure that Jack was in the throes of passion every time my mom glanced at the screen to see what was going on.

*facepalm*

I had to explain how Starz was looser with nudity and sex than BBC so there was a lot more than when it was on before. However, it was nice to see Jack as seducer rather than just flirt or seducee.

I also liked the inclusion of the alien that killed Katie and more background on it although it pose more questions. Did someone deliberately expose her or was it just a terrible accident?

However, I always tend to get annoyed when Rusty has religion. I know it's Jane's episode so it could also be her fault since the last Catholic bashing was on her watch, too. Honestly, it's not just Catholicism though. I can't think of a single person of faith during Torchwood's entire run that has been seen in a positive light, can you?

There is Ianto who definitely has a background with the Christian church. He found that passage too easily otherwise and there was talk of his having dialogue about faith or his questioning it except they were cut.

Now, in this series, we have the Catholic doctor, Angelo and others who come off nuts at best and severely warped at worst. I acknowledge that religion has caused a lot of problems but there have also been a lot of good people of faith.

I can't help comparing it with the Whedonverse. The Whedonverse doesn't adhere to a specific religion but it acknowledges a mysterious Powers That Be that could be fate or could be a body of supernatural beings...we don't know. There are also other parallel and alternate universes so a person could go there and think it's Heaven or the Elysium Fields or there could be an actual beyond where "death is your gift". It felt like having some sort of faith or belief even if it wasn't specific opened up the shows to have richer storylines which I really miss in contrast to Rusty's universe of Torchwood, Doctor Who and Sarah Jane where they insist that nothing is out there except darkness and the closest we have to an all-knowing being would be the Doctor.

I'm also getting really sick or the Doctor also doubling as Jesus or now where we have Jack fill that role. It just feels very mocking or judgmental when Rusty has religious iconography in his shows.

I also really hated what Gwen said about her former coworkers at first but now I'm really to let it go as survivor's guilt and she's just really fucked up...basically become Jack to an extent.

I've decided not to even think about which Jack we see in 1927 because the first time I watched, I thought for sure that it was a post-COE Jack, then the internet said Exit Wounds but when I watched again, it also had a lot of hints for it being the slow Jack...there's just too much fail there to be sure. Dammit, Jane, I thought you were an obsessive fangirl like the rest of us...

No, Gwen, even if he has known you three or four years, your boss shouldn't be faulted for not knowing your mom's name...even if he did retcon her. Besides, you didn't even know Ianto had a sister...

Jack: I love weddings.
Captain Jack Sparrow (suddenly appears): I love weddings, drinks all around!

(Both Jacks make out)

Well, that's what should have happened.

This week only, get your free Obama bumper sticker at this link:
http://my.barackobama.com/Bumper-Sticker

There's no catch except they want your name and address.

However, my mom did have two concerns:

1. Since his approval rating is lower than last time, would our car be in danger for having the sticker?

Then, we pulled behind a SUV that still had their McCain/Palin sticker so...

2. How should we put the sticker on?

We don't do stickers or magnets or anything on the outside of the car. We had the '08 sticker attached using fishing line and paper clips to a headrest...we have a hatchback...but the sun and Florida warmth warped and/or melted it into deformation. We're not sure what we're going to do with the new one so it won't happen again especially since it'll have to survive for over a year until the election.

Any ideas?

I wasn't sure about seeing Fright Night. Yep, I love Toni Collette, Colin Farrell and Anton Yelchin isn't too bad either..., plus, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Dave Franco? Then, on top of that, you have David Tennant being so incredibly sexy beyond belief...

But it was a horror movie based off an 80s film I never saw and the ads seemed confused about whether it was comedy or horror and if it was just a horror film...well, the last time I paid money for one of those was either Scary Movie 4 or Scream 3...

Then, I found out that it's written by Marti Noxon.

I know, the name probably has no meaning to you. She hasn't had the genre success of Jane Espenson but Marti Noxon wrote some of my most Favorite episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer EVER...

What's My Line? Part 1
What's My Line? Part 2
Surprise
The Wish
The Prom
Wild at Heart
New Moon Rising
Buffy vs. Dracula

Plus, she's the one singing "It isn't right, it isn't fair, there was no parking anywhere, I think that hydrant wasn't there" in "Once More With Feeling."

With those credentials, I was finally sold on Fright Night which would be written by someone who knows how to write a good vampire tale.

It was SO worth IT! I really wished it had earned more money. Maybe with better marketing and more 2D showings, it could have and we would have our Peter Vincent sequel because dammit, he needs his own movie. It'd be glorious.

It was exactly what I was expecting...written in the same vein of Buffy, only with more blood and cursing...oh, how I loved the cursing especially when most of the fucks come from David Tennant's mouth with Ten's accent...

Peter Vincent: You were late with your cue.
Ginger: No, you were early, just like in bed.
Peter Vincent: Go fuck yourself.
Ginger: Yes, I will, someone has to!

Peter Vincent: Fucking Ebay! )

So, I've learned this summer that if Colin Farrell is in a movie, then his house is totally getting snooped.

Also, that last part about not doing anything I wouldn't do, not that that would limit much except (something starting with a M) and sushi...

Did anyone catch what the M word is?

I'm also tempted to make a personal rule that if Lisa Loeb is in a horror flick, that's a sign of quality.

Okay, bottom line, if you love David Tennant and can stand gratuitous blood, you NEED to see this film and if you didn't care about David Tennant before, you're going to love him after. I'm not the only one to make the Jack Sparrow scene stealing star-making comparison about him in this, it's just...awesome, worth the cost of the movie right there. My mom was even tempted to see it and she HATES horror movies.
